5G is quite a hot topic recently, especially over the last few months when it appears like the finish line is finally in sight. While many are discussing ways to improve download speeds, industry experts have determined a way for 5G signals to be used as a power source to charge wearable devices and IoT-based gadgets...from thin air. Talk about a futuristic development.

  1. 5G Charging Could Get Rid of Batteries

Energy harvesting has traditionally faced some major set-backs. For a long time it didn't appear that it could be implemented in the real world due to focalization and FCC limits on power emission-- 5G networks changed all of that. As 5G becomes more widely adopted, it opens the door for on-demand “over the air” battery power, which means that batteries will no longer be needed.

How Will 5G Network Charging Work?

Alongside the lightning speed communication which 5G networks allow for, so have 5G architects indirectly created a wireless power grid which allows for devices to be charged in a completely new and innovative way, which previous technology never allowed for-- from thin air.

The real question is if other technological developments could evolve alongside to make 5G charging a real possibility, and not just an option for the very few. Wireless charging from thin air? Has the era of the Jetsons finally arrived?
